Dot NAME Domains

Started in 2001, the .NAME top-level extension is the only one supposed to be for personal sites only. These domain names can be personal or fictitious names, aliases and/or other titles people are famous by. At the beginning, just 3rd-level registrations were permitted, so if you planned to book john.doe.name, you were required to do that under .doe.name. In 2004, however, the registration procedures were loosened and second-level registrations were also permitted. Already bought third-level names remained active.
